Cheers and tears greet Citizen of the Year, Gerald Croteau

After being named the 2007 Citizen of the Year during the March 31 Steak-Out dinner, Gerald Croteau, the father of former Aylmer mayor Marc Croteau, stands with his family, who surprised him for the special event.

In his introductory remarks, Ken LeBlanc noted that Mr Croteau has been involved in community service for nearly 50 years, in a variety of capacities including coaching and managing baseball and hockey teams, volunteering in the Cancer Society’s Daffodil Sale, and organizing the Diabetes’ Society’s 2005 Walkathon. Claude Francoeur added that Mr Croteau served as president of the Food Bank, was a member of the Lion Clubs, and is very involved in the distribution of Christmas baskets and in the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Mr Croteau, said Mr Leblanc, also has “a charismatic personality which has served well in recruiting so many others to become involved in community service.” “So many people in Aylmer have benefited from his involvement,” said Mr Francoeur. “We’re are very proud to have this person in our community.”
