Le sous-fiancement de l’UQO et sa politique linguistique
Dans la région de la capitale fédérale, les francophones sont nettement défavorisés quant à l’accès aux études universitaires en français puisqu’il y a plus de cent programmes de moins offerts en français qu’en anglais.
Et une comparaison avec d’autres universités québécoises desservant des bassins de population à peu près identiques à celui de l’Outaouais (Estrie, Mauricie et Saguenay) permet, de constater que l’outaouais est défavorisée. L’UQO offrirait à peine 50 % des programmes d’études offerts dans ces autres régions.
La nouvelle politique linguistique de l’UQO laquelle renferme la décision de l’Université du Québec en Outaoouais (UQO) de réaffirmer sa mission d’établissement universitaire de langue française et d’abolir les programmes entièrement en anglais, des programmes qui de toute façon n’auraient jamais dû exister dans une université de langue française.
Impératif français invite néanmoins l’UQO à réviser certains points de sa nouvelle politique, notamment celui sur le matériel pédagogique. L’UQO doit poursuivre sa démarche de francisation en adoptant les mesures qui s’imposent pour que cesse la pratique répandue au sein de certains programmes d’études d’imposer aux étudiants des manuels et du matériel pédagogique de langue anglaise. Cette pratique aurait des conséquences certaines sur le taux d’échec et d’abandon d’étudiants qui ont pourtant choisi d’étudier en français!
De plus, Impératif français demande à l’UQO de modifier sa politique afin de s’assurer que les congrès et réunions scientifiques qui se dérouleront dans ses murs soient aussi disponibles en français et non seulement « dans une autre langue que le français », comme le permet sa nouvelle politique! Si, pour ce faire, des traductions simultanées ou non étaient nécessaires, elle pourrait sûrement retenir les services de son Centre de recherche en technologies langagières!
Impératif français invite l’UQO à déployer tous les efforts nécessaires pour que cesse la discrimination et l’exclusion pratiquées par le gouvernement du Québec à l’endroit de l’Outaouais en privant sa jeunesse de programmes d’études universitaires qui existent pourtant ailleurs en français au Québec. Le sous-financement de l’UQO doit cesser!

Il est clair que malgré les plusieurs tentatives d’explication certains résidents pensent encore que l’association est contre les fêtes ou contre la St Jean. Rien de plus faux.
Nos discussions depuis plus de 18 mois avec M le Maire, les élus et les dirigeants de fête et festival de la ville de Gatineau demande une modération et un respect de l’environnement et des citoyens.
Notre quartier est constitué de familles de tous les niveaux de vie, d’origines et de démographies variées. Comme le vôtre, il y vit des familles et des gens qui vont travailler tous les jours et qui veulent avoir une vie paisible dans un environnement sécuritaire. Depuis quelques années, la fête s’est transformé en un événement écrasant et intimidant pour nos familles avec une foire sur la plage qui fait déborder le vase, ceci qui durent 10 jours d’installation de matériel, cinq jours et quatre nuits de fêtes... Nous cherchons simplement le bon sens pour un parc au milieu d’un quartier résidentiel.
En espérant que les dirigeants seront à la hauteur du défi.
La modération a bien meilleur goût.

West Quebecers opposes new UQO linguistic policy
The community-based advocacy group, the Regional Association of West Quebecers (RAWQ), finds it unacceptable that the University of Quebec in the Outaouais (UQO) Governing Board would introduce a linguistic policy last week that clearly does not represent the views of the community or its own faculty.
RAWQ and other groups submitted briefs during the consultation period that outlined the negative impact that a linguistic policy would have on the region. President of RAWQ Shaun Peppy stated, "The new policy will not serve the future economic and social needs of the region by eliminating the possibility of the University offering education and training programs in English, which is vital for the provision of public services and economic activity in a globalized business world of which the Outaouais is a part."
"By abolishing the only programs offered in English within the region, English-speaking students are being denied equitable access to post secondary education that is supported financially from the tax contributions of their community," added Mr. Peppy.
Considering the small number of students (277) that were enrolled in the English programs, their presence did not constitute a threat to the French character of the University and did not detract from the development of Francophone intellectual life in the Outaouais which the new policy is aimed at achieving.
As well, the new policy will discourage international students from pursuing their education within our region and will remove the opportunity for Francophone students to benefit fully from educational training in what is an official language in Canada. As a result, UQO is, in effect, placing itself outside of the international academic community, which fosters the inclusion of minority communities and values the teaching of different perspectives through a variety of languages.

M. Beaudin discredits residents’ rights
One might applaud his fine sentiments about Quebec culture, except that he has invoked a love of democracy only to twist its meaning. By justifying exploitating Parc des Cèdres in the name of collective right of the majority, he is peddling an ideology not promoting democracy. A society is composed of individuals who respect the rights of their neighbors. What sane Quebecer would believe that their language, culture and identity are jeopardized by reasonable limitations on fairgrounds activities in a residential park?
M. Beaudin’s provocative slights which relegate the residents of Old Aylmer to second class status as Quebecers has no stamp of collective authority. His is not the voice of moral high ground, but simply mischief. Democracy is a privilege that deserves respect for others, M. Beaudin should know. The Residents’ Association of Old Aylmer is committed to preserving the quality of life of this community, and his attempts to discredit citizen’s rights are undeserving of further comment.

Groovy Mamas and other groups
I’ve found a new way to connect with people, and I want to share it with you. Try going to www.meetup.com — there I found the “Ottawa Groovy Mamas” group. In a short space of time I have met other moms from Aylmer and Gatineau as we have gathered at events called “meetups”. These have been playgroups in houses, weekly coffee meets, dancing at a dance studio, museum get-togethers, walks, scrap-booking events, pottery afternoons, and others. “Meetups” are planned daily. There are all kinds of groups that anyone can join or create depending on their interest.
I have also discovered that I can read the Aylmer Bulletin on-line! This is great! I do not wish to receive the Publi-sac so have attached a “no flyers” sticker on my mail box. Unfortunately this is how the Aylmer Bulletin is delivered. But I notice that not all of the display advertisements are included in the on-line format. Why is that?
