Food Bank Director honoured
Mayor Marc Bureau, right, presents Aylmer Food Bank Director Donna Levesque with a plaque during the official re-opening, March 16, after its move, last fall, to its new location at 70 Eardley Road. The mayor commended Ms Levesque for her notable efforts in serving the community and he congratulated the Food Bank staff for the service they have provided to the population.

Gatineau, pas écolo! (Point de Salut sans auto)
Je suis tannée d’entendre des beaux discours qui contredisent la réalité. L’étalement (lethal!) d’Aylmer encourage l’auto et l’individualisme, donc le gaspillage, les émissions de gaz carbonique, l’isolement et l’hyper-consommation si séduisante en nos sociétés!
Permettez-moi d’illustrer un exemple récurrent et concret pour ventiler ma grogne: Moi qui n’ai plus de voiture depuis 2 mois ( je m’en suis déjà passée 9 mois en 2003 - un exploit!) Je dois me rendre, ce Vendredi Saint à mon travail à l’ouest d’ Ottawa en bus. La 1ere partie du voyage se réalise facilement - ouf! car ce n’est jamais évident - Me voici saine et sauve au Parc-o-bus Rivermead à 8h04, matin de grands vents. Je marche pour prendre ma correspondance vers Ottawa lorsque celle-ci démarre, inconsciente et innocente, me laissant seule sur le glacial trottoir, en ce lieu de steppe désertique ( d’ailleurs mon chauffeur du 1er bus portait lui-même une chapka de fourrure - un capot d’poils - ‘’c’est vous dire qu’le printemps étions point arrivé!’’.. Le prochain bus vers Ottawa sera dans 20 ou 25 minutes... Pas de bus parce que pas de demandes hors des horaires de la fonction publique... Et vive l’auto et le Far-West! La prochaine fois j’machète un cheval!

L’Or contre des jeux indignes
Plus je vieillis, plus mes matins sont difficiles. Plus jeune, je me disais que nos seuls bras viendraient à bout de la barbarie de notre espèce. Hier, c’était le Darfour, avant-hier, le Rwanda. Aujourd’hui, la Chine. Et ce, depuis 50 ans. Qui peut blâmer le peuple tibétain de brandir le drapeau rouge pour une fois que la planète regarde dans sa direction? Je traîne ma carcasse au bureau avec de moins en moins d’envie et de sens, de plus en plus de dégoût. Guerres, ouragans, pétrole des fous et cette nature qui est toute ma vie, cette nature que nous exterminons en sauvages. Que faire, par où commencer? Par qui commencer? Complexe que tout ça me direz-vous? Fermer les yeux ne l’est pas moins. C’est pourtant ce que la Chine exige de la planète entière en ce moment alors qu’elle réprime, alors qu’elle tue, alors qu’elle extermine. C’est pourtant ce qu’elle exige de nos athlètes aussi. Je propose qu’on donne une médaille d’or à tous les athlètes qui refusent de jouer les jeux indignes de la Chine. Le dépassement moral, bien qu’il soit une discipline peu commune, n’en est pas moins olympien.

Harassment of gays in Aylmer
For the last 2 years , my partner and I have had to put up with the so much slander, defamation of character, and even death threats from a next door neighbour, its getting totally out of hand.
Our local police can do nothing, as we have tried and tried, but according to them its totally irrelevant. So much for: The Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Section 15 Canadian Human Rights Quebec Human Rights Commissions.
Part I defines fundamental human rights. Its six chapters enunciate fundamental freedoms and rights, equality rights, political rights, judicial rights, economic and social rights, and interpretative provisions.
Part II establishes the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission). The commission is responsible for promoting and upholding the principles of the charter by any appropriate measures, including investigating into possible cases of discrimination and the introduction of litigation. Members of the commission are appointed by the National Assembly. The commission’s staff members do not belong to the Civil Service, in order to safeguard their independence.
Part III provides for affirmative action programs.
Part IV guarantees rights to privacy.
Part V gives the government regulatory powers.
Part VI establishes the Quebec Human Rights Tribunal, whose members are chosen from among the judiciary.
If we mention one thing about the above-mentioned to Police Services, its out of their hands; nothing can be done.
We want something to be done, but in a way that we as gay men and women can be heard, and not placed in a position, where we just have to put up with it. Enough is enough.
We are proud gay Canadians, and certainly the laws have come a long way to identify and give us the rights of others we deserve. But the homophobic society we have in this day and age, certainly has not progressed what-so-ever.
Would you put up with “Hey Faggots”, almost everyday for two years, or graffiti that’s even worse? I would say no. We have many friends in the neighbourhood who would stand behind us if any legal action was to be taken. But really all we want is for this particular person and persons associated with this person to just go away.
The option could be that we move, but, no, we were here first — two years ago — and we want to stay. We love the neighbourhood, and the surroundings, but it all boils down to individuals who cannot be fined or punished.
We would love to see all Gays in our area stand up to this particular person and tell them, we are much better then them as we are not afraid, and will stand up for our rights as Gay men and women who live in Canada and are proud.

Supporting the Dalai Lama
There is a rising global consciousness confirming such books as, “Beyond 2012” by James Endredy. It is as if humanity in our crisis has reached a level of understanding of the indigenous roots of us all, that beyond fear is the power of love.
The book asks this question, “What are acts of creation in my daily actions that I can do for humans and for Planet Earth?” The world’s answer was reflected in the power compassion manifested as millions worldwide responded to sign the e-mail petition to support the Tibetans and the Dalai Lama at: http://www.avaaz.org/en

In this most Holy week, we saw the powerful results of over one million people worldwide, rising up. It has resulted in the Chinese government announcing they will have dialogue with the Dalai Lama. This is a demonstration of what can happen by supporting and speaking up. Keeping our charity roadblocks in Aylmer and supporting the creation of an “International Indigenous Peace Healing Centre” on Victoria Island are two examples.
What better symbol that we are reclaiming our Indigenous ways of caring for each other and planet/Mother Earth! And by also joining us March 28 at the Citizen Building in Ottawa, on the theme: “Our Spirituality in Action.”
