Gatineau consults residents in June
What to do with the Boucher Forest?
As part of Quebec’s Tree and Forest Month, Gatineau is inviting residents and community organizations to take part in the open house on developing a management plan for the Boucher Forest, Wednesday, June 4, from 3 to 8 p.m., on the fifth floor of the Aylmer service centre.
City has three concepts
This first phase will give residents and organizations the opportunity to learn more about the three preliminary concepts developed for this 250-hectare woodland. Residents will be able voice their concerns and make suggestions on the preliminary concepts.
After the open house, residents can submit their suggestions and comments by filling out the form on the municipal web site, www.gatineau.ca, in the service centres, and in libraries, before Wednesday, June 18. The comments should be submitted through the Web site, by e-mail at prenezplace@gatineau.ca, or by fax to 819-595-7138.
Final plan ready this fall
A report will then be published, leading up to the final land-use plan for the Forest, which will be presented to residents in the fall of 2008, and submitted to Municipal Council in the winter of 2008.

Riel: We need turnout at Boucher Forest consultation
Julie Murray
Coming out for the consultations is critical, says Councillor Alain Riel. “Public participation is very, very important, because we want to send a clear message to council: Protect the Boucher Forest. It is an environmental jewel,” he told The Bulletin. “In French, we call it ‘un appel à tous.’ We need everyone’s input, from citizens, the Friends of the Boucher Forest, the Club des Ornithologues, Enviro-Education. We want their feedback, their experience and expertise. We want a huge turnout.”
Three options for preserving and managing the forest will be presented at the consultations, which will be held on Wednesday, June 4, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the fifth floor of the Aylmer Service Centre.
