Brook Street demolition denied

City council voted overwhelmingly to reject a proposed Brook Street project that would see two historic match-company homes demolished to make way for two four-unit units. The demolition had been opposed by the Heritage Association, which claims the neighbourhood deserves protection for its unique architecture.

“The developer must reapply for a permit,” says Councillor Frank Thérien, who represents the ward. Mr Thérien organized a meeting between the developer, an architect, and representatives from the Aylmer Heritage Association.” (JM)


La demande de demolition sur la rue Brook est rejetée

Le conseil municipal a voté contre le projet de démolition de deux maisons patrimoniales (de la fabrique d’allumettes) pour céder la place à deux édifices de quatre unités de logement. L’Association du patrimoine d’Aylmer s’était opposée au projet; celle-ci prétend que ce secteur doit être protégé à cause de son architecture unique.

« Le promoteur doit faire une nouvelle demande de permis », nous dit Frank Thérien, conseiller du quartier. M. Thérien a organisé une rencontre entre le promoteur, un architecte et des représentants de l’Association du patrimoine.
