--Western Quebec School Board has a race in Ward 8! 

With the upcoming school board elections, scheduled to take place on November 1, 2020 based on the old governance model (i.e. before the adoption of Bill 40), interested candidates were required to submit their nomination form before last Sunday’s 5 p.m. deadline. The Western Quebec’s territory, which covers the Outaouais, Pontiac and Abitibi-Témiscamingue regions, is divided into 11 electoral wards, and each one must elect one commissioner. 

No one submitted a nomination for Ward 5 (Chelsea) before the deadline. Therefore, Ward 5 has been declared vacant. There are two candidates in Ward 8 (PETES/Hadley/Philemon Wright/Hull Adult Education): Chris Schaler (incumbent) and Kevin Shaar (Vice-Chair of APPELE-Quebec). Alain Guy was acclaimed for Chair. Six incumbent Commissioners were acclaimed, as well as three new Commissioners. There is an election in Ward 8 between two candidates and a by-election in the future for Ward 5, unless the government of Quebec decides to use extraordinary powers to nominate an individual to fill the vacant position.

In order to be on the electoral list of the WQSB, a person must be a qualified voter according to the School Elections Act (art. 12). Any interested electors who would like to be registered on the WQSB Electoral List must complete the form entitled "Notice to the English-language school board". The completed forms will be processed during the revision period and when the Revision Committee is sitting, between October 3 to October 13. Other key dates include October 25 to 26 – Travelling poll from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and advance polling from 12 p.m. to 8:01 p.m. On November 1, electors will be able to exercise their vote between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
