Another cold winter for Aylmer commuters; there won’t be new bus shelters any time soon
In January, the Société de Transport Outaouais (STO) stated that this year they would be launching a call for tenders to find a company to install bus shelters. Over the past three years, 10 Aylmer Bus shelters were removed due to the aging structures, or because they were deemed unsafe by STO maintenance teams.
Of the 10 that were removed, seven are set to be replaced. However, no new bus shelters have been installed since January.
“Although we have issued calls for tenders to purchase new ones, we have unfortunately not received any compliant bids,” said José Lafleur, public affairs officer at the STO. Lafleur explained that they are still trying to acquire the bus shelters, but that no timeline can be given as to when new shelters will be installed.
In January, STO stated that the file was complex and there were many obstacles including availability of new bus shelter models, limited funds for the concrete slabs required to install the new models, supply issues, and coordinating with Gatineau about planned work in the area.
Even once the new shelters are acquired, other sectors and areas in Gatineau may be prioritized over Aylmer.
