Autumn Migration—Warblers
In late summer and throughout the fall, the woodlands of Deschênes Park come alive as waves of various species of warblers and other migratory birds pass through. As a result, groups of birdwatchers can also be seen there, coming to observe them. Small and colorful in the spring and darker in the fall, warblers undertake long seasonal migrations between their wintering grounds in Central and South America and their nesting areas in Canada’s boreal forests where they raise their young and feed on our abundant insects all summer long. Twenty-eight species of warblers have been reported in Deschênes Park, including the Yellow Warbler (pictured), which is a summer resident at Deschênes. Warblers are a delight to birdwatchers, even though they are rather difficult to spot because of their constant movement and their habit of living in dense underbrush. Whether you recognize their song or manage to catch a glimpse of them, discovering warblers is sure to fill you with wonder.
