Best of Aylmer winners announced, on eve of federal election: locals celebrated for 2024
Lily Ryan
By invitation only, finalists packed the banquet hall at the Gatineau Golf Club to learn who won top in 54 categories, April 24. The categories were published in print and online for a six-week voting period. The general public entered their choices for “best of” in these 54 categories. Ranging from Best Dentist to Best Roofer, Aylmer’s favourites were celebrated by their clientele and the general public. The Aylmer Bulletin team tallied the votes, verified fair voting systems, and invited the over 300 finalists to the awards event.
After an introduction from Mayor Maude Marquis-Bissonnette and a word of encouragement from the Aylmer-Pontiac provincial deputy, André Fortin, the awards were announced. Of note: second and third positions were not announced. The vote numbers were very close in some categories – and there were no suggestion vote options. Public opinion was the vote factor alone.
Special thank you to the sponsors and Woopii Balloons for making the event so beautiful
*Note: At press time, Federal MP Greg Fergus was a candidate during the federal election campaign. Results came in after this newspaper went to print. Mr Fergus was a finalist in the Best Politician category, along with Lucerne city councillor Gilles Chagnon and Pontiac deputy André Fortin. Fergus took the winning number of votes.
