Defence investment injection for Quebec

Businesses and organizations in the Outaouais are now eligible to apply for funding under a new federal program aimed at strengthening Canada’s defence industrial base. The Regional Defence Investment Initiative (RDII), a $357.7 million national fund, includes $64.9 million allocated to Quebec over the next three years through Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED).

CED has confirmed that eligible projects from Outaouais will be considered, making the region a full participant in this effort to boost regional economies while supporting national defence priorities.

The RDII supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), industry associations, research centres, and business incubators that contribute to the defence sector or want to adapt their work to supply it. Projects involving dual-use technologies, advanced manufacturing, or cybersecurity are especially relevant.

The Outaouais, with its established innovation networks and proximity to federal institutions, is well placed to benefit. While no specific local projects have been announced, CED’s regional business offices will collaborate with potential applicants to identify proposals that align with the program’s objectives.

Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly, who is also responsible for CED, highlighted the initiative’s dual purpose of economic growth and national security. “Small and medium-sized enterprises are at the core of regional economic development and are key to our government’s plan to build, protect and empower Canadian industry,” she said.
