Gatineau launched its call for proposals for restaurant owners planning to operate a food truck in the city. This call for proposals will make it possible to issue authorizations for food trucks to operate at select locations starting April 1. The authorization will be valid from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023.
“Gatineau residents' enthusiasm for street food is undeniable. We hope that food truck restorers will come forward to offer the public a different culinary experience,” said Gatineau Mayor France Bélisle. “This type of cuisine can be a tourist lever and becomes a means of distinguishing oneself. I therefore invite restaurateurs who wish to diversify their income to embark on this adventure and submit their application.”
Potential food truck operators can submit requisitions through the city of Gatineau website www.gatineau.ca/cuisinederue. Applications must be submitted by 2 pm on March 11, 2022.
The selection criteria for potential food truck operators includes; menu and contribution to Gatineau's culinary community, design of the food truck, qualification and experience of the candidate, and eco-responsible measures.
There are 17 locations that food trucks can occupy, as well as possible participation in public markets such as Vieux-Hull, Plateau, Notre-Dame, Vieux-Aylmer. Before parking at their reserved area, food truck owners must pay a fee of $20 for each day they are parked there.
After authorization is given by the City, owners can reserve a location through “Best Food-Trucks”, an online platform designed by street fooders. The Association des Restaurateurs de Rue du Québec (ARRQ) holds the rights to this platform for Quebec.
