Gatineau Elections: Aylmer
Candidate: Guillaume Gaboury, Équipe Mario Aubé
Guillaume Gaboury, the Équipe Mario Aubé candidate for Aylmer, is an established business owner. He manages companies in real estates, construction and outdoor industries. Gaboury is the owner of JB Construction. He has a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Ottawa. Previously, the candidate worked in government departments such as National Defence and the Privy Council Office.
1. Why are you running for councillor, and what experience or qualities make you the right person for the job?
I want to serve citizens and small businesses. I want to defend Aylmer's interests by focusing on responsible management, solid basic services, and decisions rooted in the realities on the ground. I am committed to ensuring better long-term planning in Aylmer, with initiatives already announced, such as an audit of our finances and the state of our infrastructure.
I hope that Gatineau will have more rigourous management, transparency at the heart of decision-making, and people as its top priority. Together, let's find the path to respect, rigour, and common sense. Every citizen counts; every neighbourhood has its place. With Team Mario Aubé, change is within our reach.
2. How do you plan to balance the need for housing with the pace of development, given that infrastructure has not kept up, resulting in service gaps?
I am committed to planning responsible and equitable development for all sectors, aligned with the actual capacity of infrastructure. Gatineau must build more, but better: close to services, schools and public transit. I will demand better coordination between urban planning, transportation and public services to ensure balanced and sustainable growth. Being in the construction industry, I am very aware of the lack of planning in the Aylmer sector. Over the past three years, 60% of new units have been built in Aylmer.
3. With increased development in the area, how will you protect the ecological corridors, such as the Champlain corridor in Aylmer?
Together, let's ensure rigourous planning and, in partnership with citizens and environmental organizations, enforce the rules. Every project must protect biodiversity and our sensitive environments. Preserving our natural spaces ensures Gatineau's quality of life and resilience.
4. With increased development in Aylmer, there is growing concern about the preservation of local heritage, especially as many historic homes are neglected, then demolished to make way for multi-unit buildings. What is your plan to protect and preserve Aylmer's heritage?
I am committed to reducing the timeframe for requests for renovations to heritage buildings. The city must provide a predefined material grid when architectural plans are submitted to the city.
5. Anglophones are numerous across Gatineau. How will you ensure they have equitable access to city information and services in English?
I am committed to ensuring municipal information and services are available in English. Gatineau is an inclusive city, and our communications must reflect this diversity. Improved linguistic accessibility will strengthen civic participation and trust in municipal government.
6. Aylmer’s residents are passionate about their community. When new development projects are proposed, how will you engage with both developers and residents to address any concerns that arise?
Dialogue is key to social acceptability. Constructive dialogue must be initiated from the very beginning of projects. By bringing together developers, urban planners, and residents around clear objectives, we can create more integrated projects that respect heritage and the environment, while meeting real housing needs.
