Gatineau pitcher representing Canada at the World Baseball Classic
Jude Osmond
Phillippe Aumont, who is a Gatineau native, will be suiting up for Team Canada for the World Baseball Classic. This is Aumont’s 4th World Baseball Classic, as he played in 2009, 2013 and 2023.
Aumont was drafted 11th overall by the Seattle Mariners in the 2007 MLB draft and made his debut in 2012 with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he played four seasons as a relief pitcher, appearing in 43 games.
After his major league stint, he spent a couple of seasons in the minor leagues, then in 2018, he returned home to Canada and played one season for the Ottawa Champions in the Can-Am League, starting 17 games and posting a 2.65 ERA (Earned Run Average).
Aumont then announced his retirement in 2019, stepping away from the game he loved. He returned in 2022, pitching for the Québec Capitales, and quickly became an effective starter again.
On February 5, 2026, Team Canada released its roster for the upcoming World Baseball Classic, and Phillippe Aumont was listed as a pitcher, making it his 4th time representing his country.
Team Canada kicks off the tournament on March 7 against Team Colombia.
