----Gatineau police double fines for speeding in school zones

With school back in session, Gatineau Police (SPVG) officers remind the population to emphasize good driving habits throughout the school year. According to a press release issued by Gatineau Police on August 27, officers are focusing on enforcing the respect of speed limits in school zones, mandatory stops and intermittent school bus stops. They are also focusing on distractions while driving and parking throughout the school year.

Among other things, SPVG officers will hold speedometer operations in school zones and use photo radar – calling on drivers to be on their best behaviour.

Fines for speeding in school zones during the school year are now doubled.

School crossing guards should be present at numerous intersections surrounding schools to keep kids safe. The SPVG invites parents to prepare ahead of time to ensure that their kids have the safest back-to-school experience possible, including knowing a school’s safest pick-up and drop-off points and helping kids familiarize themselves with their surroundings.
