House fire on rue Butternut

On February 22, at 10:45 pm, Service de sécurité incendie de Gatineau (SSIG) firefighters responded to a house fire at 26 rue Butternut in Wychwood. According to a press release issued by the SSIG on February 23, nine emergency vehicles with 24 firefighters arrived at the scene where the fire, which started on the balcony at the rear of the residence, had spread to the roof. 

Both sleeping when the fire started, the occupants were awakened by their smoke alarms before being evacuated from the building without sustaining any injuries. There was approximately $118,500 in damage, most of it to the roof of the home. The cause of the fire was not disclosed. The SSIG is investigating the matter.
