------ Ideas for Aylmer's main library

 

       Ask the 500 signatories to sign a new petition giving the Place des pionniers building an alternative use, such as the Ministry of Health, Gov't of Quebec and/or emergency preparedness uses,  CLSC (Aylmer needs a larger facility until the newly announced hospital is built).

       Or residential housing units can be realized affordably within the building. The retrofit for residential purposes would be substantially less than the cost of new construction... 50% less.

       The City has made the decision to demolish the building. The City has a transition plan and budget approval for the plan. Critique it and file an injunction before Quebec Superior Court.

       The new library will take 5+ years to build. It really does not have to be built at 115 rue Principal.

       The displacement costs associated with a library-only project are in the order of $125 million ...ie 75 being actual other costs caused by dislocating the economic activity of the Place, replacing it elsewhere etc.

       This project to downsize the City's presence in Aylmer is at the root of this $125,000,000 fiasco.
