Kindergarten prep workshops in Aylmer this summer
Local group helps get the kids ready for the first day of school
Courtney Edgar
Until mid-August, Partenaires de Secteur Aylmer is running themed workshops for families with children aged three to five to prepare them for kindergarten.
Each Wednesday morning from July 6 until August 10, folks can bring their young ones to the 1-2-3 Pret Pour Maternelle project. The sessions are scheduled from 10 am until 11 am. They are aimed to teach social competencies, emotions, routine, general knowledge and skills, as well as what to expect on the first day of school – even all about lunch boxes.
While the project has a French name, 1-2-3 Pret Pour Maternelle, anglophone children between the ages of three and five are welcome as well. There will be translations available on-site to create a fully bilingual event.
Additionally, if you and your child cannot attend in person, there are educational kits available to rent for free. You can choose from among eight themes: physical health and wellness, emotions, routine, language development, family and diversity, school readiness, social skills, and letters and numbers.
These educational kits are available to rent from Groupe Communautaire Deschenes on Vanier Road and from Centre Communautaire Entre-nous on Front Street. Contact Rachel Gagne, the project manager at Partenaires de Secteur Aylmer to learn more.
If you’re not three to five years old and don’t have pre-kindergarteners at home, you might be wondering if Partenaires de Secteur Aylmer have any programming in store this season. While several of their summer workshops and events have passed already, such as gardening workshops, an Indigenous craft session, and outdoor exercise for school-age kids, a few options remain on their calendar for all ages this July and August.
If you’re interested in starting your own vegetable garden, the Centre Communautaire Entre-Nous can help you with materials – and for free. From veggie plants to soil and more, you can get started easily by signing up with the community centre. Feel the wind in your hair and break a sweat with your community. From July 21 to August 3, there will be regular Aylmer cycling meetups hosted by Centre Communautaire Entre-Nous. Call 819-684-2236 to learn more about both of these events.
