New art installation at 110 rue Principale meshes art with functionality
Artist Éric Tardif mounted the final touch to his latest artwork, La Dynamique des Précurseurs, on Friday, May 12. The piece stands at 110 rue Principale, in front of Bouquinart Librairie & Galerie d'art, and was created for APICA, in partnership with MOBI-O.
The installation is intended to be enjoyed for both its aesthetic and functional purposes. It is made up of three structures: in the centre is a sculpture composed of numerous geometric shapes, painted in vibrant colours, which Tardif explained is meant to represent the dynamism of Aylmer and its forebears. To either side are two bike stands. Tardif explained that although some may be hesitant to lock their bike to a piece of art, in this case, that is their purpose, and he encourages it. Joanne Legault, co-owner of Bouquinart Librairie & Galerie d'art, expressed that she and other neighbouring businesses are very pleased to have these bike stands (with art to boot!), as there is a lack of infrastructure nearby where their customers can lock their bikes.
