LETTER
----- No early election, please
I very much agree with the sentiments expressed in Dr Shaver's letter against an early federal election call. Parliament is not grid-locked, nor are there huge issues which are stalling parliament ... so why would the Trudeau Liberals call a snap election, especially during the summer when most of us are dreaming of just getting away from daily life, as it has been defined by Covid and the lockdowns? There is no need for an election, and the Liberals don't seem to be facing any sort of opposition to their programs, especially in our recovery from Covid.
Instead of redirecting millions of dollars and millions of hours to fighting an unnecessary election, why can't the House of Commons just get down to business? That "business" includes compromise and deal-making with opposition parties. If Mr Trudeau feels he has more to do than he is allowed by his minority position -- let's hear those plans, and let's hear why he and his party cannot work with other parliamentarians for the benefit of all Canadians! If he can't, maybe he shouldn't be Leader.
