----- Pontiac NDP reaction to the election call
We in the NDP Pontiac are not thrilled with the prospect of an election in the midst of a global pandemic. Elections cost over $500 million, money better used elsewhere. However, the Trudeau government has eloquently demonstrated its inability to manage. Electoral reform? Broken promise. Meeting emissions targets? Canada is the only G-7 country that has not met its targets. Internet one hour from the capital of Canada is slow, intermittent, sometimes not available. In 2015 Mr. Amos promised to get that fixed; not done yet. On the important issue of reconciliation with the Indigenous people; too many instances of undrinkable water, and poor access to medical care. This incompetence and lack of will to do what is fair and equitable for all citizens is having a serious impact in the Pontiac riding.
After 6 years of Liberal promises, the Pontiac is still waiting for some kind of economic rejuvenation. Pontiac citizens are still not connected to high speed internet. They have seen their medical services deteriorate. The local Liberal MP was content to let radioactive waste pile up at Chalk River. Instead of representing the people of the riding, he spent his time trying to sell them unsellable policies, be it the abandonment of essential electoral reform, the shameful purchase of a pipeline, or his government’s failure to improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable.
We in the Pontiac are Ready for better!
