Drazen Seslija
Two people were killed in a car crash that occurred early Friday, October 30, around 2 am on Boulevard des Allumettières in Aylmer. Three other people in the vehicle were injured, one of them seriously.
The accident occurred on the eastbound lane, near the intersection with Boulevard des Grives. The vehicle, which was carrying five people, reportedly veered off the road and rolled over several times, according to authorities.
By the time first responders arrived, one of the passengers had already succumbed to their injuries. A second person, who was transported to the hospital, later died.
The three other occupants were also taken to the hospital. Two have since been discharged, while the third person, who suffered serious injuries, remains hospitalized in stable condition.
An investigation is underway
The Gatineau Police Service (SPVG) is continuing its investigation to determine what led to the loss of control of the vehicle. At this time, preliminary information does not suggest that a crime was committed. The possibility that the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs has also been ruled out.
The police response required the closure of Boulevard des Allumettières in the eastbound direction, between Chemin Vanier and Boulevard des Grives. The area remained closed to motorists until 4 pm to allow investigators and forensic technicians to conduct the necessary analyses.
At the time of this writing, the SPVG will not disclose the identities of those involved, out of respect for their loved ones.
Members of the public with information that could help advance the investigation may contact the Police Department on its non-emergency line 819-246=0222.
