Shout Sister Choir raises $2,800 for L’Autre Chez Soi at sold-out Aylmer concert

Music, community spirit and generosity came together on June 7, 2026, as the Aylmer chapter of Shout Sister Choir hosted a sold-out fundraising concert at Paroisse St-Paul in Aylmer.

For both performers and audience members, the afternoon was a celebration of song, connection, and giving back. The event attracted a full audience, with all 225 tickets sold, and featured an uplifting afternoon of song performed by the local women’s choir.

Through ticket sales and donations, the event raised $2,800 for L’Autre Chez Soi, an Aylmer-based non-profit organization that provides emergency shelter and support services for women who are victims of domestic violence and their children.

Audience members were enthusiastic about both the musical performance and the warm atmosphere created throughout the concert. “There was such a wonderful ambiance! Everyone in the choir was smiling and obviously enjoying themselves. And I also loved the repertoire of songs!” said local resident Jean Chevrier.

Shout Sister Aylmer is directed by Aylmer resident Elyse McCann. A music lover, performer and community builder, McCann established the Aylmer Chapter of the choir in February 2025. The chapter now has 47 members. “In Shout Sister Choir, all music is learned by ear and practiced by singing along. We are a safe space where women can come to sing in a group, even for the first time,” said McCann.

Founded in 2002 by Georgette Fry, Shout Sister is a supportive women’s community choir emphasizing “connection, not perfection”. Welcoming women from all musical backgrounds—or none—with no auditions, the network empowers communities and builds friendships through accessible group singing. There are eight other chapters in Ontario.

The Aylmer chapter reflects these values, bringing together women from across the region to share their love of music while supporting local causes. The choir’s repertoire spans a variety of genres, from contemporary favourites to classic songs, all performed in a fun and inclusive environment.

Women interested in joining Shout Sister Choir are welcome regardless of previous singing experience. To learn more about upcoming sessions and registration opportunities, email the organization: shoutsisterchoiraylmer@gmail.com.
