LETTER
---- Surprised at the USA?
Rather than debate whether the primitivos at the American Capitol building last month were well-meaning, but frustrated, "ordinary folk", as several Bulletin letter-writers claim, it's worth considering how we would view the same thing in Ottawa. Yahoos vandalizing the Senate chambers? We'd see this merely as "frustration"?
That was for American television. And I wonder if Biden isn't more of the same -- not the idiocy of the Trump, but this new American concept of government despite the people. How much substantial change will Biden bring? He is backpedalling on Iran already. When nuclear war is again a significant
threat, why is Biden not accepting Iran's offer to re-engage? And his sabre-rattling with China?
Even more unsettling is America's commitment to unending war, Biden or Trump. Trump at first said he would wind down military adventures! And apart from antiwar protests by military veterans most Americans seem oblivious not only to the huge suffering, destruction, and waste caused by these adventures, but the sheer cost. It is unbelievable that Americans seem so little concerned with nearly two decades of constant military fighting -- and failure -- all over the world, which have cost them and us trillions of tax dollars. Ordinary American "folk" have to step up to the plate, or they'll have even more to be "frustrated" about, as their government funnels millions to the weapons industry.
