Waves of reflection
June has been designated Water Month in Quebec. Did you know that Quebec holds about 3% of the planet’s renewable freshwater reserves? We are particularly fortunate in the Outaouais region, given the large number of lakes, rivers, and other waterways in our area. All the more reason to celebrate this essential resource together.
But what about water quality? This year’s theme, “Plastics: From the Visible to the Invisible—Taking Action on All Fronts,” addresses precisely this issue.
According to experts, water pollution affects all aquatic environments and raises growing concerns about water quality, human health, biodiversity, and other uses of water.
Twice a year, the Alliance organizes cleanup events at Deschênes Park and along the banks of the Ottawa River with the help of many volunteers. However, we can work to combat pollution in waterways and natural environments every day. Every item we pick up during our walks—whether it’s a plastic bottle, a cap, packaging, a dog waste bag, a can, or any other piece of trash—is one less contaminant.
